From Closed to Ajar: Effective Actions and Symmetry Breaking in Non-Equilibrium Many-Body Systems
Riccardo Penco, Carnegie Mellon University,

I will present recent advances in the effective field theory (EFT) of non-equilibrium many-body systems, focusing first on a formulation of Schwinger-Keldysh EFTs for hydrodynamic modes based on the coset construction. I will then introduce the concept of "ajar systems," which interpolate between closed and open dynamics via weak symmetry breaking, and show how their effective descriptions yield distinctive corrections to correlation functions and damping of gapless modes.

The talk is in 469 Lauritsen.
